SLM/QAM/DOCSIS Meter, 5 - 1002MHz, DOCSIS 3.0 (with DOCSIS 3.1. I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive signal strength meter that can determine strength for a specific channel, not just overall signal strength. Is one of the least expensive CATV (Analog NTSC and Digital QAM) Signal Level Meter that popped up on Amazon as being NEW. It APPEARS to measure. The 180 DSP is a signal level meter specifically tailored for installation and troubleshooting of RF signals. Featuring fast measurements and powerful troubleshooting tools, the 180 DSP comes equipped with all the tests an installer needs to measure both Analog and Digital signals and ensure the highest quality installation—and includes a price point that makes it feasible for system.

A television signal originates from a transmitter that sends information from an audio and visual source to an amplifier or repeater to the digital receiver of an A/V device, such as a television. The method used for checking the presence of a television signal is the same as checking for signal strength. A digital television strength meter connected inline with the coaxial cable that introduces the signal to your receiver or converter facilitates the process, but you can also use your receiver or digital converter’s on-screen signal-meter to check for a signal.

Signal Meter
1.Power up your digital strength meter. Nine-volt batteries power most signal-strength meters, but some connect to an external power source through an adaptor.
2.Press the menu button on the strength meter. You'll see a set of choices, such as “Select Channels,” “Setup” and 'Power to Antenna.”
3.Connect the end of the coaxial cable connected to your television’s receiver or converter to the proper port on the meter -- typically labeled “TV” or “RF.” If you receive your TV signal via satellite dish, connect the end of the coaxial cable connected to your satellite receiver in the input labeled “LNB/Dish.'
4.Check for signal presence using the meter’s single-channel mode. Select the single-channel option from the menu. A series of values, usually denoted in MHz, and a series of vertical bars appear on the meter’s display. A higher numerical value or presence of vertical bars represents a signal and its strength. If no bars are present or you receive a reading of 0.00 MHz, you do not have a signal.
Converter or Receiver
1.Power up the television and digital receiver or converter. Navigate to the menu screen on your television by pushing “Menu” on the receiver’s remote control or the receiver.
3.Cable Signal Meters
Select signal strength from the setting or setup list. Most receivers display a series of vertical bars denoting signal strength without numerical values. The presence of even one vertical bar indicates you have a television signal. If you are troubleshooting a problem, perform the following tasks and check the following system factors: perform a channel scan; check the cabling and cable connections; contact your service provider to determine if any transmitter work is being performed that affects your signal or its strength.
4.Measure the presence of a signal or its strength at various points, inside and outside the home. The lack of a signal or signal strength can often be attributed to outside interference, such as excessive foliage or structures blocking the signal path. Correction might require moving your satellite dish or adjusting its skew and elevation.
